WHAT ARE BUTTERWORMS?
Butterworms are the larval form of the Chilean Moth Chilecomadia Moorei. They're a soft-bodied orange coloured insect and have a unique sweet scent (some recognise as a sweet citrus). They are a common treat insect for many species of reptile, amphibians, and more.

2. What do I do when they arrive?
Butterworms arrive in one of our bespoke livefood containers in a substrate they can live in; all you need to do is keep them cool; the refrigerator door is usually the perfect temperature for keeping them. Keeping them cool will help them stay in a more dormant state preventing them from pupating which will keep them fresh for longer.
3. What do butterworms eat?
Butterworms do not require any food or care on arrival, just keep them in the fridge and they will be absolutely fine. The colder temp of the fridge will lower their metabolic rate which will ensure they are kept at their size/condition on arrival for as long as possible. Like with most livefood you can expect them to be fresh for at least a week, however sometimes they will be perfect fine for several weeks.
4. Are butterworms good for my pet?
Yes, butterworms contain a high amount of calcium and protein, as well as a range of nutrients. They are considered a treat however as they are higher in fat than some other insects.
